“APA style” refers to the American Psychological Association’s formatting rules for citing sources and overall formatting of research papers.  APA style is used by many disciplines including Psychology, Nursing, Communication Studies, and Business.

Here is an example of an APA citation for a journal article from a database:

Madigan, R., Johnson, S., & Linton, P. (1995). The language of psychology: APA style as epistemology. American       Psychologist, 50, 428-436. doi:10.1037/0003-066X.50.6.428
